The Lone Star Fugitive Task Force Arrests Elijah Mackey

Lone Star Fugitive Task Force (LSFTF) LogoSan Antonio – The Lone Star Fugitive Task Force (LSFTF) along with the San Antonio Police Department's (SAPD’s) Repeat Offenders Project (ROP) and Gang Unit arrested Elijah Mackey on Federal and State Warrants today.

Elijah Mackey, 29, is no stranger to law enforcement. Mackey has a criminal history that includes numerous arrests for assaults as well as drug arrests. Mackey’s current charges include a Federal Warrant for Possession of a Weapon as well as a Bexar County Warrant for Felony Drug Possession. Mackey, a veteran of both the Federal Prison System and the Texas State Prison System has been in fugitive status since January of 2007. His fugitive status ended today when he was found hiding in an attic in the 2500 block of Bermuda in San Antonio. Mackey spotted officers with binoculars as they made their approach to the residence he was currently hiding in. Realizing he had nowhere to run, he quickly removed a panel from the attic and climbed in to hide. What Mackey didn’t realize was that he knocked insulation to the floor beneath, making it easy for law enforcement to figure out where he was. He was soon assisted from the attic after a hole was made in the ceiling.

The arrest of Mackey was the culmination of many factors to include excellent police work from all agencies involved, the media who kept Mackey’s mug in the public eye, and members of the public who wanted to assist in getting Mackey off of the streets and out of their neighborhood.

The United States Marshal for the Western District of Texas LaFayette Collins said, “When law enforcement, the media, and the public join forces, each are doing their part to make our communities, our homes and most importantly, our families safer. This was truly a team effort.”
