Marshals Task Force Captures Suspect in Carmichael Road Murder

U. S. Marshals in Norfolk, Virginia, arrested Michael Grashawn Key, a 20 year old, this afternoon at The Oaks apartments in Norfolk. Key was wanted for the August 26, 2007, robbery and murder of LaQuan Carmichael. Carmichael was shot during an apparent robbery attempt at the Bristol Downs apartments located on Carmichael Road in Montgomery, Alabama.

“The Gulf Coast Regional Task Force has worked with Montgomery Police Detectives since the murder. During the course of the investigation, we developed information that Key had left the Montgomery area and traveled to Norfolk, Virginia. We immediately passed this information on to the U. S. Marshals in Norfolk”, said U. S. Marshal Jesse Seroyer. “The Marshals in Norfolk did an outstanding job, they spent a lot of hours conducting surveillance to locate the fugitive, and once they determined which apartment he was hiding in they moved in. Key was arrested without incident and placed in the Norfolk City Jail awaiting extradition to Montgomery, Alabama. No matter where you run, we will put Marshals and State and Local Officers on your trail. I cannot emphasize enough the value of cooperation between law enforcement agencies to locate and arrest violent fugitives”, Marshal Seroyer added.

In addition to the Michael Key case, the Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task force worked with local law enforcement the past two weeks on two other cases and made arrests. Latricia Thomas wanted for Capital Murder of her boyfriend, Roger Penning, and Rondarrell Williams and Calvin McMillian were wanted for Capital Murder in the robbery shooting of Bryan Martin outside the Wal-Mart in Millbrook, Alabama. Cooperation between agencies has been the reason these individuals were apprehended quickly. We are very proud to be a part of this effort”, said Marshal Seroyer.

Last year, U. S. Marshals task forces arrested more than 27,000 state and local fugitives on felony charges.
