Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force Arrests Internet Predator

Members of the Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force (GCRFTF) arrested Sean Sebastian Lane, age 32, at approximately 8:00 am this morning, in Fort Rucker, AL. Lane is a member of the U.S. Army recently returned from Iraq. Lane was wanted for two counts of Solicitation of a Child, one count of Transmitting Obscene Material, one count of Attempted Transmittal of Obscene Material and one count of Enticing a Child. The charges originated in Baldwin County, Alabama and stemmed from an investigation conducted by the Gulf Shores Police Department where an undercover police officer posed as a thirteen year girl. The officer and Lane had extensive sexually graphic e-mail conversations during which Lane wrote about meeting the purported underaged girl for sex at some point in the future. Lane sent at least one sexually explicit video of himself that showed what appeared to be a military related background. Other less graphic photographs also show backgrounds related to military facilities. Lane also wrote in his e-mails about being in the Army deployed to Iraq.

GCRFTF investigators in Mobile, AL developed information that Lane had recently returned to Fort Rucker after a deployment in Iraq. GCRFTF investigators in Mobile sent a request for assistance to the GCRFTF Montgomery, AL. Task force members in Montgomery immediately responded to the request and arrested Lane on Fort Rucker.

U.S. Marshal William Taylor stated "This is type of offender Congress had in mind when they authorized the creation of the Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force".

The Army Criminal Investigations Division (CID) assisted the GCRFTF in the arrest of Lane.

Annually, investigations carried out by the U.S. Marshals Service result in the apprehension of approximately 34,000 federal and 27,000 state and local fugitives on felony charges. More federal fugitives are arrested by Marshals than all other federal agencies combined.
