WASHINGTON, D.C.-- Today, the Community Relations Service (CRS) announced that the Butte County Hate Crime Task Force signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) summarizing agreements on hate crime and bias incident procedures and protocols for all Butte County schools and law enforcement agencies. The Butte County Hate Crime Task Force met from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon to sign the MOU at the Chico City Council Chambers, 421 Main Street, Chico, California, Conference Room 1.
"The Butte County Hate Crime Task Force has recognized that hate crimes and bias incidents are serious and occur with enough frequency to develop and establish a clear set of protocols for law enforcement, school, and university officials to respond in close cooperation with one another," said CRS Senior Conciliation Specialist Booker T. Neal from the agency's San Francisco Field Office.
The Butte County Hate Crimes Task Force is composed of a comprehensive group of law enforcement executives and educators who have forged a strong commitment to work together. The Hate Crimes Task Force is especially concerned with hate crimes involving school age youths on school grounds.
The Task Force will be sponsoring hate crime training on March 14, 2002, which will further strengthen the agreement to collaborate in combating hate crime activity in Butte County.
