Federal Explosives Law and Regulations 2007 Publication Available

ATF is pleased to announce the publication of the updated Federal Explosives Law and Regulations (ATF P 5400.7), generally know as the “orange book.”

One of the goals of this publication is to help the industry ensure the safety and security of explosive materials involved in commerce. The updates include enhancements to the Organized Crime Control Act of 1970 stemming from the enactment of the Safe Explosives Act. Three of the major changes are requirements that all persons who receive regulated explosive materials in intrastate commerce have a Federal explosives license or permit, that ATF conduct background checks on all employees possessing explosives in the course of their employment with a licensee or permittee, and an expansion of categories of persons prohibited from possessing explosives. In addition, the publication provides updated questions and answers, and addresses new rulings that give the industry flexibility through alternate methods or procedures for specific explosives regulations.

All Federal explosives licensees and permittees will receive copies of the publication in early 2008, but in the interim can download the publication at: http://www.atf.gov/explarson/fedexplolaw/2007edition/index.htm

Augusta Store Front Investigation Results In Indictments Against 48 Defendants, Many Of Them Gang Members

MS-13 Member Sentenced to More Than 19 Years in Prison For Involvement in a Racketeering Conspiracy

A member of La Mara Salvatrucha, or MS-13, has been sentenced to 235 months in prison for his participation in a racketeering enterprise, Assistant Attorney General Alice S. Fisher of the Criminal Division and U.S. Attorney Edward M. Yarbrough of the Middle District of Tennessee announced. More.

Fifty-Nine Members Of Drug Trafficking Organization Indicted

Yesterday morning, a federal Grand Jury issued a 12-count indictment, charging 59 defendants with federal drug trafficking and firearms offenses. Today, we arrested 36 members of the organization, which began in or about the year 2005 and continued until today. The organization managed drug points in Puerto Rico at Covadonga, Los Mirtos, Los Laureles, Los Claveles and other Public Housing Projects in and around Trujillo Alto, Carolina and San Juan. More.

Two Men Receive Life Sentences for Role in Violent Drug Trafficking Organization with Ties to the Mexican Mafia

Erickson sentenced Alberto Chahia, a/k/a Chingone, of Indio, California, and Kelly Dean Overby of Jamestown, North Dakota, to life in prison on drug trafficking charges. Clifford Harris, a/k/a “T.I.,” Arrested on Federal Firearms Charges

CLIFFORD HARRIS, 27, an entertainer also known as "T.I.," of College Park, Georgia, was arrested in Atlanta by agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), as he allegedly took possession of three machine guns and two silencers.
