Applying for Restoration of Explosives Privileges

Generally, prohibited persons may apply for relief from disabilities. This process can take 120 or more days to complete. To apply for relief from an explosives disability, an ATF F 5400.29, Application for Restoration of Explosives Privileges, an appropriate FD-258 Fingerprint Cards, and additional information must be completed and sent to ATF’s Explosives Relief of Disability Section. Applicants must submit additional information in reference to their particular prohibitions. Applicants should view the links below to determine what additional information is required.

Please note that the appropriate FD-258 forms must be obtained through the Explosives Relief of Disabilities Section office.

Please ensure that all documents are included with the application and are completed correctly. Submitting all of the required information will assist ATF in processing your application and avoid unnecessary delays. Two copies of the application, two FD-258 forms, Fingerprint Cards (ORI number DC-ATF-0000), and all relevant information must be submitted to:
