Federal Detention Activities

The Office of the Federal Detention Trustee (OFDT) manages and regulates Federal detention programs and the Justice Prisoner and Alien Transportation System. This includes directing resources and facilitating the implementation of programmatic changes to achieve efficiencies, effectiveness, and operational synergies.

  • The OFDT addresses a specific need by overseeing federal detention management and coordinating detention activities.
  • The OFDT recently adopted the comprehensive Quality Assurance Review (QAR) program as the vehicle to meet the requirement for routine independent evaluation of program improvements.
  • The OFDT was successful in obtaining authorization up to $5,000,000 for the Cooperative Agreement Program in the FY 2008 appropriation.
