HIV, Hepatitis, STD and TB Partners

Partner Services

two men talkingThe Recommendations for Partner Services Programs for HIV Infection, Syphilis, Gonorrhea, and Chlamydial Infection integrates two formerly separate publications – CDC 2001 Program Operations Guidelines for STD Prevention—Partner Services and the 1998 HIV Partner Counseling and Referral Services Guidance. See comparison of current and former guidance.

The development of these Recommendations involved hundreds of people representing a wide variety of perspectives.

At the state and local level, the implementation of these Recommendations will help increase program collaboration and service integration and decrease costs.

Studies have shown that partner services are cost-effective and cost saving, and the many benefits extend to the people living with HIV or other STDs, their partners and the larger community as well.

To help put these Recommendations into practice, CDC will offer electronic and instructor-led training opportunities, materials, and technical assistance.
