Global Climate Change: Field Support

The integration of climate change objectives into mission programs with strong in-country presence has been a key to the sustainability and success of USAID’s climate change program. While many climate-related activities were not undertaken specifically to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, they have in fact accomplished this objective while simultaneously building the capacity of local partners to understand the ways in which climate change issues impact their ability to achieve their development goals.

The Global Climate Change team views its role as a key resource for missions looking to build capacity in:

  • developing and transition countries to address climate change;
  • helping to reduce the growth of greenhouse gas emissions;
  • increasing understanding of the vulnerability of specific regions to climate impacts;
  • providing support for U.S. foreign policy objectives with respect to climate change.

The Team, located in the Bureau for Economic Growth, Agriculture and Trade, Office of Environment and Science Policy, is customer-driven and is always looking for opportunities to support missions and other bureaus through technical resources and innovative approaches.
