About Fuel Cell Education Program
The Fuel Cell Education Program is provided through funding from US DOE and DoD. In 2003 a grant was received from the US Department of Energy's Hydrogen, Fuel Cell and Infrastructure Program to develop fuel cell curriculum and disseminate it through teacher workshops in the state of Washington. Currently, the Engineer Research and Development Center, Construction Engineering Research Laboratory (ERDC-CERL) is funding teacher workshops in California and Oregon. ERDC-CERL has been a leader in fuel cell research and technology demonstrations since the early 1990s. ERDC-CERL supports educational activities related to fuel cells through grants, contracts, and cost-shared activities.
Fuel cells use the chemical energy of hydrogen to generate electricity, cleanly and efficiently. Hydrogen fuel cells have the potential to
- strengthen our national energy security and
- reduce the generation of greenhouse gases, air pollution and global climate changes.
Teaching students about this important technology will give them an edge in this developing field. We hope students will play an important part in making fuel cells part of our sustainable future!
