Voluntary Programs

Methane and other high global warming potential (high GWP) gases, including perfluorocarbons (PFCs), hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), and sulfur hexafluoride (SF6), are potent greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change. In an effort to reduce emissions of these gases, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is working cooperatively with a variety of companies and organizations in the energy, waste management, agriculture, and industrial sectors to implement voluntary programs that encourage cost-effective emissions reductions. Through these public-private partnerships, EPA helps partners overcome a wide range of informational, technical, and institutional barriers to identify and implement various mitigation technologies, management practices, and process changes that yield both economic and environmental benefits.
