(Dallas, Texas – September 11, 2008) Children attending the Waller Independent School District can breathe a sigh of relief as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awards the Houston-Galveston Area Council $200,000 in grants to reduce emissions in order to comply with 2007 federal emission standards.
Working in a cooperative agreement with the EPA, the Houston-Galveston Area Council will retrofit 47 Waller Independent School District buses with EPA-certified particulate filters and closed crankcase ventilation systems.
The project will reduce children’s exposure to particulate matter and air toxics and improve overall air quality in the eight-county Houston-Galveston-Brazoria area.
