Enhancing Education Through Technology

The primary goal of this program is to improve student academic achievement through the use of technology in schools. The program awards grants to States and local school districts for teacher training and curriculum development, as well as other related activities to advance the field of educational technology.

Rating

What This Rating Means

NOT PERFORMING
Results Not Demonstrated

A rating of Results Not Demonstrated (RND) indicates that a program has not been able to develop acceptable performance goals or collect data to determine whether it is performing.
  • This program addresses a continuing need, enabling the effective use of technology in classrooms to improve student academic achievement, through increased hardware accessibility and technology training. While there is access to computers and the Internet in nearly all schools, enough data are not yet available to determine the program's impact on improving student academic achievement.
  • The Department has developed annual, long-term, and efficiency measures to assess the program's impact on student achievement and classroom practices. The Department has reported initial data and developed targets related to disparities in access to technology and the Internet. Data for the remaining indicators is expected in the summer of 2007.
  • The Department is currently conducting two program evaluations. The first evaluation focuses on program implementation by States, local educational agencies, and schools, while the second evaluation examines the impact of classroom technology on student achievement. Final reports for both evaluations will be available in the fall of 2007.

Improvement Plan

About Improvement Plans

We are taking the following actions to improve the performance of the program:

  • Collecting data on annual, long-term, and efficiency performance measures and using these data to develop performance targets.
  • Working with States to ensure program goals and purposes are understood, data reporting is accurate, and stakeholders are constantly working to improve program performance.
  • Making program performance information available to the public in a transparent manner.
