Jobs and Skills Fair Training

Free training was available to assist jobseekers on the following topics:

Using America’s Career Kit
This is a one-hour introduction on how to use the Internet to enhance customer job search. The course will outline on-line resources available through America’s Career Kit. The course will address services through America’s Job Bank, America’s Learning Exchange and America’s Service Locator.


Successful Job Searching (Basic Job Readiness)
This is a one-hour workshop designed to expose customers to basic job readiness skills. The course will outline basic resume preparation, completion of applications, basic job search techniques, and interview preparation and follow up.


Occupational Trends in the Mid Atlantic Region
This one-hour workshop is designed to share with both current and transitional customers, current and projected job growth throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. The course will detail trends by industry and will review skill sets required for emerging industries.


New Job, New Employer, New Skills
This one-hour course is designed to address appropriate and inappropriate workplace behaviors. The first part of the session will discuss the individual motivation that each individual must have when looking for a job, plus some tips for before and during the interview. The second half hour of the course will deal with the importance of changing and adapting to the new company for whom they will be working.


Changing Careers
This one-hour overview is designed to provide the transitional worker (or would be transitional worker) information on how to prepare for a change in jobs or careers. Items to be addressed include: financial considerations, skills training, childcare, transportation, as well as a variety of other issues that are faced by individuals changing careers.


How to Start a Business
Sponsored by the Women’s Bureau, U.S. Department of Labor, this workshop will answer questions about how to write a business plan, where to go for funding, how to find mentors through the SCORE program, as well as how to find information on set-asides for government contracts for small businesses. Experts include representatives from the Department of Labor’s Office of Small Business Programs and the U.S. Small Business Administration. Women’s Bureau staff will be available for technical assistance after the workshop.


Introduction to Computers
Sponsored by the Women’s Bureau, U.S. Department of Labor, this workshop guarantees a friendly atmosphere for those who want to move ahead in today’s job market through computer technology. Just ask Bob Tuch, from Green Thumb Experience Works!, how to start the learning process. Women’s Bureau staff will be available to answer questions at the completion of the workshop.
