A Message About Performance Improvement From Robert Shea
Hill Examines Success In Performance Management
Performance Efforts Show Real Results
May 7, 2008 - We have a lot to celebrate this quarter!
PIO Roles, Responsibilities, and Resources
January 31, 2008 - "The Performance Improvement Council held its inaugural meeting on January 9, 2008. Performance Improvement Officers (PIO) from every agency attended and discussed how to fulfill their new roles and responsibilities. To follow up, we provided the following list of responsibilities, as well as what we hope will be a running list of best practices PIOs might adopt to improve program performance. Take a look!"
Performance Improvement Initiative
September 30, 2007 - "In August, once again we posted the latest round of Program Assessment Rating Tool (PART) assessments to ExpectMore.gov. The bottom line.."
What's in a name?
July 30, 2007 - "A name is important. For an initiative, the name should convey the goals of the initiative. The Expanding Electronic Government Initiative is about expanding and improving the government's use of technology. The goal of the Improved Financial Performance Initiative is to improve our ability to account for tax dollars."
What do we mean by "Effective"?
May 1, 2007 - "OMB Director Rob Portman and Deputy for Management Clay Johnson hosted an April l9th meeting of the Federal Government's management councils - the Chief Human Capital Officers, the Chief Financial Officers, the Chief Information Officers, the Chief Acquisition Officers, the Budget and Performance Integration Management Officers, and the Inspectors General. The meeting's purpose was to discuss how we can make government more effective."
Accountability
January 22, 2007 - "Accountability is doing what you said you would do. Five years ago, agencies committed to assessing all programs in five years. With the release of the President’s FY 2008 Budget, assessments completed on almost 1000 programs or $2.5 trillion in spending are available to the public on www.ExpectMore.gov."
Budget and Performance Integration
November 16, 2006 - "It’s been a long time since four agencies advanced to green on the Budget and Performance Integration Initiative during the same quarter. Congratulations to the Department of Commerce, the Department of Education, the General Services Administration, and the Smithsonian Institution for their perseverance and, more importantly, their performance."
Improving Programs More than One at a Time
July 26, 2006 - "Over the last several years, I’ve participated in a lot of interagency efforts to find ways to improve program performance in a variety of areas. For the most part, the goal of these interagency collaborations was to improve the extent to which all of the agencies were working together to achieve their common goals."
