Holm Award |

| The National
Weather Service Cooperative Weather Program recently awarded Mr. John W. Teeter, Jr., with
the John Campanius Holm Award on November 6, 1997 The Holm Award is the second highest honor given to
cooperative weather observers, with only a few observers receiving the award annually. The
award was named after a Lutheran minister who was the first person known to have
systematically taken weather observations in the American colonies in 1644 and 1645. |

John Teeter is one of the better known citizens in
and around this community. He has lived in this area all of his life and has participated
in many local endeavors," said Marion Kuykendall, Data Acquisition Program Manager
(DAPM) at the Shreveport, La. office of the NWS. |

| Mr. Teeter has
been the official co-op observer and he has kept weather observations for the NWS since
1966. He assisted R.P. Hamby from 1959 to 1966. Mr. Teeters weather reports have helped
establish the climate and hydrological boundaries for this region of South Arkansas. Mr. Teeter, (right) keeps
weather records because of his interest weather and because of his "sense of
duty" to the community. |
