The National Center for ESL Literacy Education (NCLE) will host a symposium on "Issues and Challenges in Assessment and Accountability for Adult English Language Learners" at its headquarters in Washington, DC. The symposium will 
	
	Provide a forum for educators, researchers, and policy makers to discuss how the national focus on assessment and accountability affects instructional services for adult English language learners.	

	Propose future directions in assessment and accountability in the field of adult English as a second language education in the United States.

A panel of experts will discuss these issues from national and state perspectives, describe how valid and reliable assessments are developed and used, and talk about specific  assessment frameworks and tools.
