Bookstores like to participate in those. If you have active participants in your class, they could even do their own fundraising by organizing something simple like a car wash or a Christmas gift wrap to buy a classroom set of books for everybody.This is also a good civics lesson and it's fun. Maybe your school or a church could start an account to help needy students with their book purchase. I know this is not ideal, but maybe it is an emergency solution for an otherwise difficult situation.
