Intermuseum Conservation Association

http://www.ica-artconservation.org

The intermuseum Conservation Association's (ICA) paper conservation department is currently staffed with highly qualified paper conservators with master's degrees in paper conservation. Paper conservation and preservation services include: treatment of prints, drawings, watercolors, pastels, manuscripts, documents, architectural drawings, parchments and papyrus artifacts, books and photographs. Varying levels of conservation treatment are available. Before any treatment begins, a paper conservator will examine the article and prepare a written report and estimate recommending one or more courses of treatment. Conservators confer with the client to explain options and discuss their implications. Final choice of treatment will depend on several factors, including the condition of the artifact, its future use, its aesthetic importance, what the media will allow and the client's budget. ICA's paper lab has the capacity to do conservation treatment of large scale works on paper. Paper conservation staff can also provide a preventive conservation-environmental assessment to determine the correct relative humidity, lighting, and temperature and make an in-house storage assessment to recommend proper storage conditions and methods. ICA also offers collection condition assessments, condition checking of incoming and outgoing exhibitions, and custom mounts, custom frames and archival matting.
