NERL's Research Programs

NERL conducts exposure research that is aligned with EPA goals and objectives found in the EPA Strategic Plan, and planned in coordination with the Office of Research and Development's (ORD's) National Program Directors, the other EPA programs, laboratories, centers and regions. Each research program is focused on key EPA science problems, most of which require integrated efforts across organizations over multiple years to resolve. All of these programs are applied in nature, although some are referred to as core (e.g. ecosystem protection research, human health research), because they address cross-cutting issues and provide tools for use by the more problem- or media-specific programs (e.g. drinking water research, air quality research). ORD's research programs are described fully in a series of multi-year plans (MYPs). All of NERL's research programs are subsets of ORD's MYPs.
