Abstract:

National Wildlife Refuges are federal lands managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS). The primary source for boundary information is the USFWS Realty program (status maps, surveys, deeds, and other documents).

Purpose:

The intended application of the data is to serve as a spatial reference of refuge boundaries for other data layers in GIS and mapping applications. It is specifically not intended to be used as a land survey or representation of land for conveyance or tax purposes.

Supplemental_Information:

Data are available both in the UTM projection described herein, and in geographic coordinates.

Refuge data were developed with ESRI's ArcInfo version 7.2.1 Patch 2 software on a PC running WINDOWS NT version 4.0 (Build 1381: Service Pack 6) operating system.

Polygon item values are rechecked by data entry staff for omissions and against the original data for accuracy.

Digital refuge boundary lines obtained from the DRG (USGS 7.5' topo. quad) were double-checked with the DRG; the input survey data was re-checked for COGO input errors and omissions; all lines were checked against the status book and other source material for omissions. Software capabilities were used to ensure arcs have no dangling nodes and intersection errors and to check polygons for label errors.
