Background on President's Day: United in Service
Although our nation's presidents were unique individuals with different styles and approaches to the presidency, they all have one characteristic in common: service to America. President's Day: United in Service was created to celebrate our nation's presidents and to highlight President Bush's history, civics and service inititiatives. The launch of this project coincides with the White House Forum on American History, Civics and Service on February 17, 2003.

The presidential biographies were developed by fifth-graders from Abingdon Elementary School, which has an afterschool program focusing on service. The students completed worksheets for the presidents and colored drawings by a White House artist. The two primary sources for completings the worksheets are listed below.
