Welcome to the website of the Alaska office of USDA Rural
Development.
Through our housing, community facilities,
water and sanitation, business, telecommunications and electric
programs we touched the lives of literally every Alaskan in some
way during fiscal year 2008, and we’re on track to spark
continued economic growth in the future.
Overall we invested over $107 million in
Alaska during the most recent fiscal year. That includes funds
for new homes, renovated multi-family units, business
development, health centers and recycling facilities. For the
eighth year in a row, we provided funds to Alaska communities
for new emergency response equipment, including ambulances. We
also financed the purchase of new police cars in one village and
a public safety building in another community.
While we remain committed to the efforts
described above, we are increasing our efforts to promote the
development of renewable energy systems and promote energy
efficiency programs in rural Alaska. Improving rural broadband
access and supporting construction and modernization of critical
care hospitals are priority focus areas.
Nothing we do would be possible without our
partners’ support. That includes the Denali Commission, Federal
and State agencies, lenders, community organizations, faith
based groups and especially our Congressional delegation. With
their support we help Alaskans achieve their dreams every day.
Look through our web site, check out the
annual reports below, and stop by our state or area offices.
We’re also as close as your phone. For more information about
our programs call us at (907) 761-7705. At USDA Rural
Development, we’re committed to the future of rural communities.
Sincerely,
Chad B. Padgett
