Welcome to the New York State Environment

A hugely diverse state, both culturally and geographically, New York is known for both its natural and built wonders. Close to half of the state's population of 19 million is concentrated in New York City, considered by many to be the business and financial center of the world. New York, however, can boast of much more than being the home of Broadway, Times Square and Wall Street. The agricultural areas of New York are the third largest producers of dairy products and the sixth largest producers of fruit crops in the United States. The "Empire State" possesses a wealth of varied natural beauty as well, including the pounding cascades of Niagara Falls, miles of ocean beaches, the Hudson River, Long Island Sound, and the hardwood forests of the Adirondack Park, the largest area of protected public land in the continental United States.
