Clean Water Act - NPDES Databases

The main NPDES permitting database is the Permit Compliance System (PCS). The PCS database is located on a large IBM mainframe at EPA's Research Triangle Park in North Carolina and it maintains NPDES permit and compliance information nationwide. The PCS system is maintained by the local regions and states. EPA Region 6 maintains a file downloaded from PCS that cross references permit numbers and permittees and is called the "6WEAMAIL" system. The 6WEAMAIL system also identifies the permit effective dates. While 6WEAMAIL contains most permittees, some general permits are stored on other databases to meet special needs and are not included in 6WEAMAIL. CAFOs and Storm Water permittees are examples of general permits not on the 6WEAMAIL system.
