Partnership Development
Successful R&D or technology licensing often requires a partnership in which individual entities each bring a needed skill or ability into the process. But where to find that ideal partner? Depend on the NTTC, like NASA has for more than 15 years. Since 1989, the NTTC has been cultivating relationships among industry, academia and government agencies to produce licenses and other agreements that benefit all parties.

The NTTC works closely with its clients to define partnership priorities, then employs an aggressive, thorough partnership development process:

  • Identification – In addition to drawing on its already-established network of relationships in pursuit of an ideal partner for a client, the NTTC develops marketing tools to draw in new prospects. These include Technical Support Packages, Web sites and publications, in addition to events such as symposia, workshops and conferences.
  • Qualification – Once a group of potential partners is determined, the NTTC further refines the list by evaluating the identified organizations through the use of defined criteria. Primary and secondary research is done through direct communication and proprietary databases to determine company ownership, financial statistics, road maps, areas of interest and other factors. Through direct contact, the NTTC determines the company’s level of interest in the partnership. Non-confidential materials are also created and disseminated to the potential partner, outlining the technology and its applications.
  • Partnership Facilitation - Once an identified and qualified entity expresses an interest in working with the client, the NTTC aggressively facilitates the partnership. Information is disseminated and communications managed, including the arrangement of confidentiality agreements, conference calls and company/client visits, with the goal of both parties agreeing to partner.
  • Agreement Support – The NTTC continues supporting client and partner throughout the preparation and finalization of a license or other desired agreement, keeping the process moving forward in a timely manner.
