Technologies originally developed for use in U.S. defense are getting a second life in the commercial market through the Missile Defense Agency's Technology Applications (TA) Program. Administered by the NTTC, the TA Program helps large and small U.S. businesses and universities commercialize their Missile Defense Agency-funded technology.
Fruits of the TA Program include a new silicon architecture that will allow fuel cells to be used as power sources in next-generation portable electronics; a material for use in safety goggles to better protect welders' eyesight; and hardware that reduces dust and noise in machinery as diverse printing presses and boat radars.
Support for the TA Program is provided by the NTTC's Washington Operations office, located in Alexandria, Va.
