Recycling

Recycling Center Rules

The following rules apply to the Recycling Center located on Eastwood Road:

  1. The Recycling Center is solely for the use of town residents, businesses located within the Town of Marilla and by use of the Town of Marilla and its employees.
  2. All vehicles entering the Recycling Center must have a Recycling Center Sticker affixed to the left side window which can be obtained at the Town Clerk's Office. There will be no admittance without a valid sticker.
  3. Only recyclable materials generated within the town shall be deposited at the Recycling Center.
  4. The Recycling Center will be open every Tuesday of the month from 1:00 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. and the second and last Saturday of the month from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. year round.
  5. Unloading of recyclables shall be done at the direction of the attendant and only in areas designated by the attendant.
  6. The following items shall be accepted at the Recycling Center:
    • a. Glass - minus metal or plastic covers. Note: Window glass should be removed from the frame and included in your regular weekly sanitation pick-up as it is no longer accepted by the glass recycling center.
    • b. Newspapers, magazines, and corrugated paper, cardboard, egg cartons and mixed paper. (cardboard and brown paper bags must be flattened and dry).
    • c. Motor oil - placed in the tank provided on site.
    • d. Metals - to be placed on the metal pile as designated by the attendant.
    • e. Brush and tree limbs not to exceed 4" in diameter and cut not to exceed 10' in length for chipping.
    • f. Batteries will be accepted.
    • g. Grass clippings, leaves, and other similar yard waste to be deposited in the compost area as designated by the attendant.
    • h. Plastic containers must be marked with the recyclable emblem and a 1 (PET), 2 (HDPE), 3 (PVC), 4 (LDPE), 5 (PP). Containers must be rinsed cleaned clean and the caps, rings, and labels removed.

The following materials are specifically excluded from being deposited at the Recycling Center:

  • a. NO HOUSEHOLD GARBAGE WILL BE ACCEPTED.
  • b. NO BUILDING OR DEMOLITION MATERIALS including shingles, plasterboard, wood, brick, stone, or plastics.
  • c. NO BLOCK WOOD, such as tree stumps, etc.
  • d. NO TIRES OF ANY KIND. Rims will be accepted, but tires must be removed for their acceptance.
  • e. NO METAL DRUMS new or old of any size - for example: 55 gallon oil drums. In order to be able to handle recyclables in compliance with procedures established by the New York State D.E.C., the Marilla Town Board must insist on the strict enforcement of the foregoing rules. Violators of these rules shall be subject to loss of their recycling permit and a minimum fee of $100.00 not to exceed a fine of $250.00.
  • f. NO WAXED OR PLASTIC COATED OR FOOD CONTAMINATED cardboard or chipboard boxes.
