The roadway continues to the back of the house. Only the first floor of the home is accessible to wheelchairs. The visitor center is accessible and the 17-minute film "Frederick Douglass: Fighter for Freedom" is captioned for the hearing impaired.

Visitors should plan to arrive 20-30 minutes before their tour times in order to pick up their tickets and view the film before the start of their tour.  Tours start at the times indicated. An average tour of the home takes 30 minutes.  Visitors should plan on spending an hour to an hour and a half at the site.

Tour groups should be advised that their groups will be broken down into smaller groups for the tour.  A group of 60 takes 1 hour 15 minutes to tour the house.  Groups should plan on spending up to two hours at the site.
