UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE WEEKLY CLAIMS REPORT SEASONALLY ADJUSTED DATA The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.0 percent for the week ending June 18, unchanged from the prior week's unrevised rate of 2.0 percent. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending June 18 was 2,600,000, an increase of 4,000 from the preceding week's revised level of 2,596,000. The 4-week moving average was 2,604,000, an increase of 2,000 from the preceding week's revised average of 2,602,000.
The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 285,637 in the week ending June 25, a decrease of 4,010 from the previous week. There were 318,746 initial claims in the comparable week in 2004. The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.9 percent during the
week ending June 18, unchanged from the prior week. The advance unadjusted number
for persons claiming UI benefits in state programs totaled 2,407,825, an increase
of 11,786 from the preceding week. A year earlier, the rate was 2.2 percent
and the volume was 2,720,586. Extended benefits were not available in any state during the week ending June 11. Initial claims for UI benefits by former Federal civilian employees totaled 1,383 in the week ending June 18, a decrease of 36 from the prior week. There were 2,119 initial claims by newly discharged veterans, a decrease of 119 from the preceding week. There were 13,014 former Federal civilian employees claiming UI benefits for the week ending June 11, an increase of 226 from the previous week. Newly discharged veterans claiming benefits totaled 27,292, an increase of 555 from the prior week. The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending June 11 were in Puerto Rico (4.7 percent), Alaska (4.1), Pennsylvania (2.8), Oregon (2.7), Michigan (2.6), New Jersey (2.6), Arkansas (2.5), California (2.3), Massachusetts (2.3), Connecticut (2.2), Illinois (2.2), Rhode Island (2.2), South Carolina (2.2), and Wisconsin (2.2). The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending June 18 were in Michigan (+2,690), New Jersey (+2,274), Texas (+981), Nevada (+730), and Wisconsin (+699), while the largest decreases were in North Carolina (-7,000), Georgia (-3,516), South Carolina (-2,914), Illinois (-2,555), and Oklahoma UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE DATA FOR REGULAR STATE PROGRAMS
