UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE WEEKLY CLAIMS REPORT
SEASONALLY ADJUSTED DATA
In the week ending Nov. 6, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial
claims was 333,000, an increase of 2,000 from the previous week's revised
figure of 331,000. The 4-week moving average was 336,000, a decrease of 5,500
from the previous week's revised average of 341,500.
The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.2 percent
for the week ending Oct. 30, unchanged from the prior week's unrevised rate
of 2.2 percent.
The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during
the week ending Oct. 30 was 2,813,000, an increase of 19,000 from the preceding
week's revised level of 2,794,000. The 4-week moving average was 2,804,250,
an increase of 1,750 from the preceding week's revised average of 2,802,500.
UNADJUSTED DATA
The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted,
totaled 350,039 in the week ending Nov. 6, an increase of 44,842 from the previous
week. There were 397,387 initial claims in the comparable week in 2003.
The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.9 percent during the
week ending Oct. 30, unchanged from the prior week. The advance unadjusted number
for persons claiming UI benefits in state programs totaled 2,439,022, an increase
of 67,193 from the preceding week. A year earlier, the rate was 2.4 percent
and the volume was 3,025,662.
Extended benefits were not available in any state during the week ending Oct. 23.
774 individuals filed continued claims under the Federal Temporary Extended Unemployment Compensation (TEUC) program during the week ending Oct. 23.
Initial claims for UI benefits by former Federal civilian employees totaled 1,462 in the week ending Oct. 30, a decrease of 150 from the prior week. There were 1,779 initial claims by newly discharged veterans, a decrease of 201 from the preceding week.
There were 16,929 former Federal civilian employees claiming UI benefits for the week ending Oct. 23, a decrease of 2,172 from the previous week. Newly discharged veterans claiming benefits totaled 27,660, a decrease of 833 from the prior week.
The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending Oct. 23 were in Alaska (4.0 percent), Puerto Rico (3.8), Oregon (2.7), New Jersey (2.6), Pennsylvania (2.6), California (2.4), Arkansas (2.3), Massachusetts (2.3), Michigan (2.3), and Washington (2.3).
The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending Oct. 30 were in Wisconsin (+1,350), Kentucky (+842), Arkansas (+660), Nebraska (+606), and Washington (+591), while the largest decreases were in Florida (-4,984), Missouri (-3,803), Pennsylvania (-1,705), Virginia (-1,425), and Ohio (-1,054).
