Description: This trail is located just south of Mt. Adams Wilderness.
Trail #40 begins near a livestock corral on Road 8020. The trail passes
through selectively harvested forests, intersects with Trail #72, and crosses
Hole-in-the-Ground Creek. It then climbs McDonald Ridge where it ends on Road 8020.
The trail is lightly used.
The trail and creek are named after the Gotchen family - sheepherders from eastern
Oregon who traveled here each summer to graze their flocks.
Features: Forested path, Hole-in-the-Ground Creek, and old stock
drive.
