Government Contractors

Employers that have contracts or subcontracts with federal government agencies have certain additional employment law responsibilities.

DOL's Employment Standards Administration's Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs, administers and enforces three laws that prohibit federal contractors and subcontractors from discrimination in hiring and require them to take affirmative action to ensure equal employment opportunity in their employment processes.

In addition, DOL's Working Partners program provides guidance about the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, which requires some federal contractors and all federal grantees to agree that they will maintain drug-free workplaces.

Use the resources on this page to learn more about the employment law responsibilities of federal contractors. Please note that elaws Advisors have not yet been built for every DOL law and regulation. Therefore, your issue may also be covered under laws not addressed by this Web site.
