FSIS Extends Comment Period for Poultry Class Revisions

WASHINGTON, Jan. 9, 2004 – The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and
Inspection Service today announced it is reopening the comment period on a proposed rule to update
poultry standards of identity.
The proposed rule amends the definitions of poultry classes to make them consistent with the poultry sold
in the marketplace today. FSIS uses these poultry class standards to ensure that poultry products are
labeled in a truthful manner.
The comment period for the proposed rule closed on November 28, 2003. FSIS is extending the comment
period in response to a request for additional time to comment on the proposed rule. Additional comments
will be accepted for 30 days from the date of publication of the notice in the Federal Register.
The proposed rule is available in the Federal Register and on the FSIS Web site

Comments should be directed to Written comments on the proposed rule may be submitted to FSIS Docket Clerk,
