FSIS Announces March Regulatory Education Sessions for Small and Very Small Plants
FSIS will continue to hold regulatory education sessions in March for the owners and operators of small and very small plants in South Carolina and Missouri.

The sessions will cover a regulatory walk-through of sanitation standard operating procedures and the hazard analysis and critical control point and rules of practice regulations. The agency has moved forward with plans to expand the regulatory education sessions.

The March regulatory education sessions will be held at the following locations:
  • Tuesday, March 6 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the Ramada Columbia Northeast, 7510 Two Notch Road, Columbia, S.C.; and
  • Tuesday, March 6 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the Radisson Hotel & Suites Kansas City-City Center, 1301 Wyandotte, Kansas City, Mo.

The agency will also hold regulatory educations sessions this month at the following locations:
  • Tuesday, February 6 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the Doubletree Albuquerque, 201 Marquette Avenue, Albuquerque, N.M.; and
  • Wednesday, February 28 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the Crowne Plaza Madison East Towne, 4402 East Washington Avenue, Madison, Wis.

FSIS Continues to Solicit Comments on Risk-Based Inspection Report
FSIS is soliciting comments until February 12 on the report compiled by Resolve, Inc., to summarize and synthesize stakeholder input regarding risk-based inspection.

On January 26, the agency posted the transcript from its January 10 meeting with industry, consumer and employee groups regarding the December 2006 report on risk-based inspection.

In its efforts to develop a more robust, risk-based inspection system, FSIS secured the services of Resolve, Inc., a national non-profit organization, to help with gathering input from employees, consumers, industry, state inspection agencies, public health groups and other stakeholders.

Export Tip of the Week
When meat and poultry products are destined for U.S. embassies, ship stores and U.S. military use, FSIS Form 9060-5, Meat and Poultry Export Certificate of Wholesomeness, should be issued at an exporter's request.

In addition, one of the following three statements should appear in the "Remarks" section: (1) product destined to U.S. Embassy, (2) product destined to ship stores or (3) product destined for U.S. military use.

While almost all countries accept Form 9060-5 with the appropriate statement in the "Remarks" section, there are rare instances when a country will require additional documentation.

For example, a transit certificate is required for product destined to Germany for U.S. military use or to ship stores. When in doubt, check the country requirements.
