Receiving Your Economic Stimulus Payment

With the high price of oil, the housing shortage, and other factors creating problems for our national economy, Congress acted earlier this year to provide economic stimulus payments to all Americans. If you haven't received an economic stimulus check, you may be among the nearly 10,000 North Dakotans who are eligible for a payment but have not yet claimed it.

Collecting your stimulus payment is easy. In order to collect, applicants must fill out and submit a 2007 tax return form. The IRS will take care of the rest. This year's deadline for attempting to collect payments is Oct.15.

Economic stimulus payments carry a maximum rebate of $600 for individuals and $1,200 for couples who file jointly, depending on income. Families will receive another $300 for each qualifying child.

The IRS has mailed informational packets targeted at retirees and veterans as a reminder to apply for stimulus payments if they have not yet done so. Many in these groups do not normally need to file a tax return. However, in order to receive a stimulus payment, a return form must be filed.

I've placed some information on this page that may be helpful to those interested in applying online.

The IRS has conveniently put together an informational web page that explains what to do in order to collect a stimulus payment. Click here to go to the page. (Use this link http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=177937,00.html.)
