(WASHINGTON, D.C.) --- U.S. Senators Byron Dorgan and Kent Conrad and Congressman Earl Pomeroy announced today that the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs will dispatch two “community outreach vehicles” to North Dakota in an effort to increase services to veterans in rural areas.

The delegation said one vehicle will be based in Minot and the other in Fargo. The vehicles, which are expected to arrive in January 2009, will travel throughout the surrounding region to provide outreach, information and readjustment counseling services to combat veterans and service members who are leaving the military. The services will also be available to the families of military personnel.

“In rural states like North Dakota where veterans often live long distances from the nearest Vet Center, we need to take special steps to deliver the services they need,” the delegation said in a joint statement. “These community outreach vehicles will be a helpful addition to the benefits we provide to service members who are readjusting to life outside of the military.”
