Statement of Dr. Barbara J. Masters
Acting Administrator Food Safety and Inspection Service
|
|
|
On October 19, San Leandro, Calif., sausage factory owner Stuart Alexander was found guilty for the brutal murders of
Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) compliance officers Jean Hillery and Tom Quadros and California Food and
Agriculture Investigator Bill Shaline.
Today, that same jury has determined that Alexander should receive the death penalty for committing these vicious and
heinous acts.
FSIS appreciates the years of hard work of all involved in bringing Alexander to justice. While this case has come to
a close, our memories of these brave and committed public servants remain eternal. The FSIS family will never forget
the contributions Jean, Tom and Bill made to their profession, their families and to their communities. Their dedication
to public health will forever serve as our inspiration as we strive to ensure that U.S. meat, poultry and egg products are the
safest in the world.
