NWHIC Organizations Directory -- Record DetailsThe HIV Vaccine Trials NetworkMission statement:The HVTN is an international collaboration of scientists, formed in 1999 by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), whose goal is to speed the development and testing of HIV vaccine candidates. Critical to this mission is making global findings available to scientists worldwide, pushing everyone closer to the goal. Since the global scientific challenges presented by the virus are substantial, the HVTN has a distinctly international focus. As such, the scope of collaboration and exploratory work is both more expansive and extensive than previous vaccine trials networks. The HVTN has strong collaborations with community Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO’s) and a wide variety of international organizations involved in the design, conduct, and educational issues surrounding HIV vaccine development.
