Past Program Activities, 2003–2008
Republic of the Marshall Islands, 2003–2008

From March 2003–February 2008, the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) Ministry of Education received funding from CDC’s Division of Adolescent and School Health to provide HIV prevention education and conduct the Youth Risk Behavior Survey.

Past Program Activities

Provided HIV Prevention Education

  • Developed and maintained an interagency HIV prevention Web site in both English and Marshallese.
     
  • Conducted professional development for classroom teachers to improve their knowledge and skills in providing effective HIV prevention education in Marshall Islands’ schools.
     
  • Provided opportunities in peer education for high school students.

Conducted the Youth Risk Behavior Survey

  • Administered the YRBS in middle schools and high schools to obtain data representative of all students in grades 6 −12.
     
  • Disseminated YRBS results to Ministry of Education leadership, schools, and community partners.
