Dallas, Texas — 2003–2008
From March 2003–February 2008, the
Dallas Independent School District (ISD) in Texas received funding from
CDC’s Division of Adolescent and School Health to provide HIV prevention
education and conduct the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS).For information on

Past Program
Activities
Provided HIV
Prevention Education
- Supported the Teen-to-Teen peer group in the development of an
educational program at the Townview Magnet Center and developing a
public service announcement for all Dallas ISD students that is focused on the
risk factors for HIV/STD infection.
- Provided educational workshops in HIV/STD prevention for parents of
students in grades 7 –12.
- Provided staff development for classroom teachers on the knowledge
and skills students need to protect themselves from HIV infection.
Conducted the Youth Risk Behavior Survey
- Disseminated YRBS results district-wide to administrators,
classroom teachers, school counselors, nurses, and community partners.
- Included YRBS results and trend analysis data on the district
Web site for review by students, parents, and community members.
