Montana, 2003–2008
From March 2003–February 2008, the Montana Department of Education
received funding from CDC’s Division of Adolescent and School Health to
provide HIV prevention education and conduct the Youth Risk Behavior Survey
(YRBS).For information on Montana's

Past Program Activities
Provided HIV
Prevention Education
- Provided training and technical assistance on the use of the School
Health Index to increase the skills of school staff in assessing their
policies and practices related to HIV/AIDS.
- Offered professional development to school staff on age-appropriate
health education programs that contribute to effective HIV/STD
prevention education as part of coordinated school health.
- Conducted training on providing effective HIV/STD prevention
education to build the capacity of agencies that serve youth in
high-risk situations.
Conducted the Youth Risk Behavior Survey
- Collected data on youth risk behaviors that are representative of
middle and high school students in Montana.
- Collaborated with students to become involved in their school-based
health environment through peer-to-peer presentations using the YRBS
data.
- Incorporated YRBS data into workshops for students and educators
who were interested in developing a peer education program within their
school.
