LINCOLN, Neb. -- The State of Nebraska and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will open a Disaster Recovery Center in Beatrice, Sunday, June 29 to help residents and business owners with their recovery from the severe storms, tornadoes and flooding that began on May 22, 2008.

Opening for three days only: Sunday, June 29; Monday June 30; and Tuesday July 1, 2008

Hours: From 9:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M.

The counties declared for disaster assistance are Buffalo, Butler, Colfax, Dawson, Douglas, Gage, Hamilton, Jefferson, Kearney, Platte, Richardson, Sarpy and Saunders.

Residents can visit any of the following recovery centers for assistance:

- Lexington, at the old Wal-Mart, 1501 Plum Creek Parkway;
- Kearney, 2022 Ave. A, Mid-Town Business Center
- Schuyler, Grade School cafeteria, 200 W. 10th St.
-Ceresco, City Hall Community Center 217 S. 2nd St.
-Omaha, Millard Fire Station, 7010 S. 142nd St.

Before going to a recovery center it is best to register with FEMA by calling 1-(800) 621-FEMA (3362), or to register online at www.fema.gov/assistance. Those with special speech or hearing needs can call TTY (800) 462-7585. It will take 20 to 30 minutes to complete the application.

Applicants will be assigned a nine-digit registration number. They should be sure to write this number down and keep it safe. The number will be used by FEMA to track the progress of their file.

Here are some of the services available at a Disaster Recovery Center:

FEMA community relations specialists are going door-to-door in each of the declared counties providing recovery information; they carry and display official government photo identification.

Residents visiting a center or calling in to register should have identification, social security numbers, insurance information and proof of address and contact phone numbers on hand to help speed the application process.
