CHARLESTON, W. Va.-- State and federal officials announce the opening of an additional Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) on Wednesday, June 16, in Logan County to assist those affected by the severe storms, flooding and landslides that began Memorial Day weekend.

The Logan County DRC will be in Logan High School, 1 Wildcat Way in Logan.

DRCs also are open at the following sites:

All DRCs are open daily from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. until further notice.

Those who were affected by the severe storms, flooding and landslides that began on Memorial Day weekend in the disaster-designated counties can use this free resource to talk with recovery specialists.

Federal and state disaster recovery officials encourage citizens to first apply for disaster assistance by calling the toll-free application number 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week until further notice. Persons who are hearing or speech impaired can apply by calling a special TTY number: 1-800-462-7585.

These centers use a “one-stop” concept so those who need assistance can get information on state and federal disaster recovery programs in one location. Persons visiting a DRC can get the following information: status of their FEMA claim (for those already registered); details on the types of state and federal disaster assistance available; questions about or help with completing

U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) loan applications for homeowners, renters, and businesses; types of assistance available through voluntary agencies; and rebuilding tips on how to minimize future storm damages.

On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
