Seattle, WA -- Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Fire Program Specialist Rob Carnahan will present the City of Moro Fire Department with an $11,807 grant for fire operations and firefighter safety equipment on Monday, June 30 at 6 p.m. at their main station at 103 Dewey Street in Moro, Oregon.

The FEMA Assistance to Fire Fighters Grant Program is designed to increase the effectiveness of fire fighting operations, firefighter health and safety programs, new fire apparatus, EMS programs, and Fire Prevention and Safety Programs.

"Our nation's firefighters are the first responders for almost every emergency," said FEMA Regional Director John Pennington. "Through this award program, President Bush and Congress have provided FEMA the opportunity to significantly enhance the Fire and EMS services they provide to Americans."

"We purchased an engine from the Gresham, Oregon Fire District about three years ago for $12. We are going to upgrade and update the equipment on that engine with the grant funds and get it up to NFPA and OSHA standards," said Shawn Payne, Director of Emergency Services for Sherman County and author of the grant.

"We have some new firefighters and they are so excited about getting the grant," Payne said.
