Oregon Firm Recalls Beef and Chicken Products due to Possible Adulteration

WASHINGTON, Nov. 1, 2007 - Annex Foods, a Portland, Ore., establishment, is
voluntarily recalling approximately 4,374 pounds of various cooked beef and chicken products that
may be adulterated due to inadequate verification and documentation of processing activities as
required by the establishment's Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) plan, the U.S. Department of
Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced today.
The following products are subject to recall: [View Labels]
- 1-lb. and 3-lb. bags of "The Original Taco House Cooked Beef for Tacos."
- 4-lb and 8-lb. bags of "Annex Foods Chili Verde."
- 8-lb. bags of "Annex Foods Chili Colorado."
- 3-lb. bags of "Annex Foods Cooked Beef for Tacos."
- 8-lb. bags of "Annex Foods White Chicken Taco Filling."
- 3-lb. bags of "Annex Foods Mexican Meatballs."
- 8-lb. bags of "Annex Foods Enchilada Meat Filling."
Each package also bears the establishment number "EST. 5880" inside the USDA mark of inspection.
The company also applies a "best if used by date" on the package based on a 40-day shelf life.
The products were produced on various dates between Oct. 11 and Oct. 30, 2007,
and were distributed to institutions and restaurants in Oregon and Washington.
There was no retail distribution of these products.
The problem was discovered through routine FSIS inspection. FSIS has received no reports of illnesses associated with consumption of these products.
