Acupuncture is one of the oldest, most commonly used medical procedures in the world. This publication is an overview of what acupuncture is, the theories behind it and the FDA's role in regulating medical acupuncture. It also lists clinical research activities on acupuncture sponsored by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM), information on selecting an acupuncturist, resources to contact for more information and a helpful glossary of terms.
