FEMA Delivers Much-Needed Ice More Than 700,000 Lbs. Delivered On Tuesday

Richmond, VA -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) delivered more than 720,000 lbs. of ice to storm-affected areas in Virginia on Tuesday, Sept.23. FEMA continues to make the availability of ice to Virginia communities a priority to ensure the health and well being of storm-affected citizens.
There are currently eight staging distribution sites for emergency ice. The following shows the distribution sites and the amount of ice that was delivered there today.

FEMA anticipates an additional 1.2 million lbs. of ice to be delivered to staging sites tomorrow.
On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages Citizen Corps, the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
