San Juan, PR -- FEMA/commonwealth disaster recovery officials announced today that the Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) in Yauco and Adjuntas for the residents who sustained losses or damage as a result of the May 6 - 11 floods and mudslides, will close operations on Friday, July 6, 2001.
"Nevertheless, FEMA services will be as close as a telephone call away," said Justo Hernández, federal coordinating officer for the recovery effort. "Those who have already registered for state and federal disaster assistance can call the FEMA Helpline at 1-800-525-0321 to receive information about the assistance process or provide updates to their application, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m." said Hernández.
The deadline for residents to apply for disaster assistance is July 16. Residents are urged to register by calling the toll-free FEMA registration line at 1-800-462-9029, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (Hearing or speech-impaired individuals may call TTY 1-800-462-7585).
"Although the centers will not be taking assistance applications, the residents without phone service may use the telephones at the DRCs to call the FEMA toll-free registration line" added Hernández.
The hours of the DRC in Yauco is from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. and located at:

The DRC in Adjuntas operates from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the following location:
