Berks And Montgomery Receive Additional Flood Aid

Philadelphia, PA -- Berks and Montgomery counties have been granted disaster assistance by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA.) Along with adjacent Bucks, the three counties suffered damage from flooding caused by Tropical Storm Allison.
Joe M. Allbaugh, director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, announced the decision on aid today. Montgomery County, which had previously received individual assistance for the June floods, has been approved for public assistance. Berks County has now been approved for both individual and public assistance.
"We are pleased that Montgomery and Berks counties will receive the much needed federal assistance," said Karen Critchfield, commonwealth coordinating officer.
The individual assistance program provides eligible residents with disaster housing assistance, low-interest loans to repair or replace storm-damaged property, and grants for serious needs and necessary expenses not met by other programs including personal or homeowner insurance.
The public assistance program provides federal funds for 75 percent of approved costs of debris removal, storm-related emergency services, and repair or replacement of damaged public facilities such as roads, bridges and utilities.
Residents of the three counties affected by the flooding may apply for disaster aid by calling FEMA's toll-free registration number, 1-800-462-9029. People with speech or hearing impairments may call (TTY) 1-800-462-7585. The last date for application is August 20.
